Where can I buy Folgers® coffee?

Folgers coffee is available at most grocery stores and big box retailers. It is up to the stores or their suppliers to decide which brands and quantities to carry, meaning the entire line of Folgers coffee may not be available at each location.

What is the shelf life of Folgers coffee?

To make sure you continue to have the freshest coffee experience possible, we've added "Best by" dates to all Folgers packages. To keep unopened coffee fresh after you bring it home, store it in a cool, dry place and use before the "Best by" date. Coffee used beyond its expiration date is safe to drink, but some of the flavour might be lost.

Can I reuse the package?

We don't recommend reusing any of our containers, especially to store other substances. Regardless of what material it's made of, our containers are designed to protect our products during shipping and storage. This is the only use we can safely support.

My coffee tastes bitter or burnt. What can cause that taste?

Several factors can cause coffee to have a bitter taste, including:

Brewed coffee sitting on the heating element too long. If not consumed in 15 minutes, we recommend keeping brewed coffee in a thermal container.

Using a dark-roast coffee. Dark-roasted coffees typically have a bittersweet, full-bodied flavour, so if this is not the flavour you are looking for, trying a lighter roast might be the answer.

The coffee might have been ground too fine, where too much coffee is extracted through the brewing process, causing a strong or bitter taste.

The coffee might not have been ground fine enough, causing a lack of flavour that often is referred to as bitter.

The grind level doesn't correctly match the brewing method (coffee ground for automatic drip but used in a percolator might taste bitter).

The coffee beans might be stale, or might not have been stored in an airtight container. If kept too long in the refrigerator or freezer, coffee could develop "off" flavours.

The ground coffee is stale. If ground coffee is not stored in an airtight container, it might develop bitter overtones.

What causes the can to bulge?

Is it safe to use? Absolutely! Your container of Folgers coffee might have been packaged under higher-than-usual pressure. This can happen when coffee is packed fresh. It's still giving off its aroma, causing the protective seal to expand. It will still have that wonderful Folgers flavour and aroma.

Here are some helpful tips for opening the container:

As with any vacuumed product, hold it away from your eyes. Prick the inner seal with the tip of a knife and you'll hear a "whoosh" sound. Wait a few seconds for that sound to stop, and then continue opening. Enjoy!

Is the new AromaSeal® canister recyclable?

Our Folgers AromaSeal container is class 2 HDPE plastic (High Density Polyethylene), and the snap-tight lid is class 4. This material is the same type used in most laundry detergent bottles, juice containers, milk jugs, and water jugs. It's readily recyclable in areas where facilities exist.

Is there anything I should know about reusing coffee?

Leftover coffee should not be reheated; it will not taste the same.

Never reuse coffee filters, they absorb the leftover stale flavours and they tear, which allows grounds to pass through into your coffee.

Never reuse coffee grounds for brewing. The best coffee flavours are extracted the first time they pass through the filter.

What are Folgers® K-Cup™ Portion Packs?

K-Cup™ Portion Packs are single-serving coffee packs designed for use with a Keurig® Brewer. K-Cup™ Portion Packs are servings of ground coffee supplied in a prepared single-serving unit that is inserted into the machine after it heats up, and disposed after the coffee is brewed.

Is Simply Smooth® a "low-acid" coffee?

Simply Smooth® coffee is not a "low-acid" coffee. Rather than targeting acids, Folgers Simply Smooth® coffee is specially blended and carefully roasted to reduce certain irritants associated with stomach discomfort. Simply Smooth® coffee is gentle to the stomach, while providing the great Mountain Grown™ taste and aroma of Folgers coffee.
